The wait will definitely be worth it for one young competition winner who will see his design come to life next week at the Monty Lit Fest.
A 2020 competition to design a festival bookmark was won by Woody Jones, but the pandemic put a stop to his work being created until next week when the Festival comes to town from June 10-12.
Woody said: “I’m very pleased and proud that I won the competition and my design has been printed onto bookmarks to advertise the Monty Lit Fest. I look forward to going to it.”
Monty Lit Fest really is back, bigger and better than ever, featuring 20 sessions with the likes of bestselling novelists Janice Hallett and Sophie Hannah visiting Montgomery for three days of culture and conversation.
The Literary Festival prides itself on celebrating writing from Wales, the Borders and beyond with a wide range of sessions covering everything from fiction, poetry and music to farming, history and nature - and even a pub quiz.
There will also be a children’s session (free for up to 4 children per adult with a ticket) and two writing workshops covering radio and food writing.
The finale on Sunday afternoon is a literary cricket tea, when Montgomery Cricket Club celebrate its 175th anniversary with writers Marcus Berkmann and Roger Morgan-Grenville.
Festival Chair and Trustee, Sarah Morris, said: “After two years of running sessions online, we can’t wait to hold the Festival in-person again. We’re excited to launch such a wide-ranging programme that really does offer something for everyone.
“We look forward to welcoming book lovers to Montgomery to meet some amazing authors. We know we’re not the biggest Lit Fest in Powys but we like to think we are the friendliest and we are very proud of the summer programme we have on offer.
“We are so pleased to be able to use Woody’s striking doodle design for our Festival bookmark and I hope he, and all our visitors, feel the event has been worth the wait.”
