Money is available for communities to return areas back to nature
Community groups, voluntary organisations, charities, schools and other organisations in the Welshpool area are invited to apply for grant funding to create places for nature in their local area.
The Powys Nature Partnership has recently been allocated Welsh Government funding through the Local Places for Nature scheme. This scheme aims to create Nature on Your Doorstep, where people live, work and access public services.
The scheme focuses on engaging communities to actively create and enhance places for nature and concentrates on bringing nature into urban and previously nature-deprived areas.
“Across Wales and the rest of the UK, we are seeing a decline in species and a reduction in nature-rich areas,” said Nigel Brinn, Executive Director Economy and Environment.
“The Local Places for Nature scheme grants are available to communities to use in ways to create local places for nature. These sanctuaries will not only help and improve our local environment but will also provide areas for our residents to enjoy the benefit of spending time in nature.”
The deadline for grant applications is June 12. More information and an application form can be found online: https://en.powys.gov.uk/article/12640/Local-Places-for-Nature
