Welshpool’s offer to ‘budding retail entrepreneurs’

01/06/2022 @ 08:40

Budding retail entrepreneurs in the Welshpool area are being offered the opportunity to sell their ideas to the local market, and also to represent the town at a national competition.

The Town Council is backing the Young Traders Market 2022, a nationwide campaign to encourage 16 to 30-year-olds to sell their ideas on retail markets.

It is providing a free day of trading for that age range at the town hall market next month, where it is hoped that not only will young people be able to become retailers for the day, but that a new generation of shoppers will be attracted to the venue.

A series of these local events are being held throughout the UK, and the best of the traders will take part in one of 10 regional finals before the national final in August at Stratford-upon-Avon.

Welshpool is staging its Young Traders Market on Saturday, July 9, and now the hunt is on to find entrepreneurs keen to trade.

Councillor Alison Davies, Welshpool Town Mayor, said: “We at Welshpool are proud and keen to support this initiative because of what it is doing for markets nationwide.

“To make sure they thrive in years to come we have to bring in new blood, young entrepreneurs who have fresh ideas and who will hopefully attract a younger generation of shoppers.”

Anyone wanting to take part in the event should contact Anne Wilson, Town Clerk on 01938 553142 or for more information, visit nmtf.co.uk/young-traders-market.
