A local council has said it will contact the police if it receives any more hate mail directed towards councillors, after one was received for the new mayor.
Yesterday, the town clerk received the “hate mail” at their home address which was targeting the new Mayor, Cllr Alison Alexander (pictured).
She started her term in office last month following the local council elections which saw all nine candidates who stood installed to the town council as there were not enough candidates to run a vote. There are still three vacancies remaining.
But last night the council revealed things had turned sour since and called for “respect”.
“Today, the town clerk has received an anonymous letter which can only be described as hate mail regarding Llanfyllin’s new Mayor,” the council said in a statement.
“This is completely uncalled for and we will be keeping a record going forward, if it continues it will be passed on to the police.
“The Clerk’s home address should not be used for this sort of correspondence, the e-mail address is townclerk@llanfyllin.org.
“Please respect your Town Councillors who work tirelessly to help make Llanfyllin the Town that it is, that everybody can enjoy.”
