Welshpool Medical Centre has said it is adopting a “zero tolerance” on staff abuse following another unsavoury incident that has also prompted a warning of police intervention.
The practice said that “enough is enough” with the ongoing abuse impacting the mental wellbeing of its staff on the frontline.
“This abuse and aggression is getting worse and it must stop today,” said Gaynor Maclennan, Practice Manager.
“It is not acceptable for the Practice Team to be subjected to aggressive and abusive language when they are doing their job.
“Drs Russell & Partners consider the Health and Wellbeing of their team very seriously. Every day the Practice Team are receiving verbal abuse from the very people they are trying to help.”
Mrs Maclennan said that the “words that patients use stay with our Practice Team long after they have finished their day’s work” and that while some have become hardened to it, others go home and “consider whether they can face another day of rude and aggressive language?”.
“Welshpool Partnership operates a zero tolerance on verbal and physical abuse. The Practice Team, without doubt, are the biggest asset to the success of your local GP Surgery.
“Future outbursts from anyone either on the phone or face to face at our front reception desk/dispensary counter at Welshpool or Guilsfield will result in police and Powys Teaching Health Board guidance about their continued registration at the Practice.”
The practice has issued several pleas in the past for the abuse to stop, but following this latest incident, it is obvious that they have had enough.
