Police probe Montgomery fires

28/07/2011 @ 04:21

An investigation has been launched after two fires broke out close to each other in Montgomery yesterday.

As mywelshpool reported, four fire engines extinguished a fire at 1.15pm in a workshop at Court Calmore Farm, but a second was reported in a corn field nearby two hours later, an hour after the initial blaze was extinguished.

Police are now treating the fires as suspicious and appealing for information.

“These fires happened close to each other and within a couple of hours of each other,” said Detective Inspector Ian Andrews. “We’re unable to say at the moment how the fires started and we’re hoping members of the public will come forward with any information which they think may help. In particular I’d like to speak to the female driver of a 4x4 who may have seen someone walking past the scene at the relevant time.”

The fire at Court Calmore damaged 30 per cent of the workshop and 15 per cent of its asbestos roofing.

If anyone has information which they think can help, they can contact police in Newtown on 101.
