The gruelling Tour de France may have only finished last weekend, but Wales’s top cyclist will be in Welshpool on Saturday as part of his latest marathon challenge.

Olympic and World Champion Geraint Thomas MBE will stop at The Old Station for an hour from 3.30pm and is inviting cyclists to join him on his journey which continues onto Denbigh Cricket Ground. His charity adventure starts from Pontypridd at 6.30am.

“My Taid passed away three weeks ago after suffering from a series of mini strokes, which then lead to dementia,” explained Geraint. “After witnessing first-hand the effects of these illnesses we decided to organise the charity bike ride to raise awareness and money towards research into both dementia and strokes.

“The money raised will be split between The Stroke Association and Alzheimer's Research UK. Welshpool cyclists are welcome to join me for part of the way providing they donate some money to the cause!”

If you are unable to be at the Station in person to meet Geraint and donate, you can contribute through http://www.justgiving.com/teams/Taid.
