Campaign’s ‘Woodstock’ to Take Power Back

29/07/2011 @ 11:46

A huge music festival will be held this weekend, organised by campaigners opposing plans to erect hundreds of new wind turbines across Mid Wales by Energy Giants.

The Sustainable Life Festival will take place on Saturday from noon through until 1am at Mathrafal Farm, Meifod, and organisers hope that thousands will show their support in order to raise vital funds for the long fight ahead to block the much-hated plans.

“This will be a big celebration of what has been achieved so far and it also sends a strong message to the Energy bosses,” said Nick Larder, one of the organisers from the opposition group Take the Power Back. “It will also help us to raise money for the campaign ahead. Montgomeryshire is now right at the forefront of a UK-wide campaign to get Westminster to review and rebalance UK energy policy in favour of more green, reliable, efficient, sustainable and cheaper forms of generating electricity. To this end, we are planning an autumn conference to which all the 200 plus groups from the UK and elsewhere will contribute.”
One-time wind energy supporter Nick has already led one protest march from Welshpool to Cardiff, when he was joined by, among others, County Times chief reporter Richard Jones, and he remains a key flag bearer for the fight ahead.

Two beer tents are being supplied tomorrow by Tanners and Monty’s Brewery while a tea and cakes tent is also on site. A Hogroast will be served during the afternoon while burger and other vans take over the catering at 5pm.

There will be various stalls, bouncy castles and other fun activities in a dedicated Children’s area. The festival provides two music options to cater for all tastes with the main stage supported by an acoustic tent.
