Can Welshpool reverse the tide of town centre closures?

24/06/2022 @ 09:59

These are trying times for Welshpool Town Centre following the recent news that two more high streets names have added to a growing list of major brands calling time on the town.

Savers closed its doors for the final time earlier this month, while Barclays will be leaving on September 16, joining HSBC, WH Smith and Sainsbury’s who have recently left.

It has resulted in a number of empty premises blighting the town centre, despite some of the town’s independent shops reporting record trade since the pandemic restrictions were lifted earlier this year.

MyWelshpool joined around 40 businesses this week for a forum called by the town council at The Royal Oak Hotel where Mayor, Cllr Alison Davies, gave an enlightening presentation to show what they are doing in response to the crisis.

It also enabled business leaders to share their concerns, and also ideas that coul;d breathe fresh life into the town centre.

The event was captured in this MyWelshpoolTV report so please feel free to click on the link.
