Welshpool High School has been handed a £25,000 boost to ease the financial burden caused by severe winter damage.
The school hit the headlines over the Christmas period when burst pipes wreaked havoc on several parts of the school, resulting in children returning for the new term a week late.
The repair bill placed an added strain on the school’s budget so the decision by Powys County Council to release the funds as part of their overall £123,000 support will be welcomed.
Cabinet Member for Resources, Councillor Tony Thomas said: "Last winter’s prolonged severe weather caused significant damage to a number of buildings, damage that could not reasonably have been prevented or covered by individual budgets.
“The Cabinet has agreed that the council’s general reserves should be used to ease the burden for individual service areas.”
Ysgol Rhiw Bechan has been handed £28,860 towards the cost of its repairs with a total of 32 schools across Powys sharing the overall funds released.
