There is just no stopping Welshpool super teen Adele Nicoll who is fast becoming one of the UK’s most promising sporting hopes for the future.
The incredible 14 year-old is not only the Wales No.1 youngster for discuss and shot putt, but has firmly established herself as the UK’s top performer after recording the second longest throw ever for an athlete of her age at the weekend.
In doing so, the Welshpool High School pupil (pictured) won the English crown, joining her Welsh and Celtic titles to continue her staggering rise to stardom.
But despite her success, Adele, who is the daughter of Paul and Justine Nicoll, has shown that she has an old head on young shoulders by recognising the support she has received from others to get her to the top.
“It is hard to put into words how I am feeling after pulling off the double gold this weekend and putting myself 2nd on the 'All Time' list for my age group, it's all kind of surreal at the moment,” she said. “I have worked very hard to achieve what I have done this weekend and couldn't have done it without the support network of my family and coaches. It also takes a lot of self belief.”
Adele’s latest achievement came at the England Athletics Under 15 Championships held at the Bedford International Stadium on Sunday where she competed in the discus and shot putt.
With a massive personal best and longest throw of the year of 39.97m, she took gold in the discus and No 1 in the UK rankings for her age. In the shot, Adele excelled again and produced the second best throw in history for her age group of 14.12m. This set a new Championship Best and a new Welsh Record and also reclaimed her No 1 spot at the top of the UK rankings for this age group too. Adele is now just 15cm away from the furthest 'all time throw' for her age.
The previous weekend, she competed in the Celtic International Games held in Antrim Forum, Northern Ireland as part of the Welsh Athletics Under 16 team. She won the discus for Wales with a throw of 39.72m which was a new personal best until her heroics on Sunday.
