New affordable housing will be built in Castle Caereinion, following a partnership struck between the community and Mid Wales Housing Association, Community Land Trust, Powys County Council and the Rural Housing Enabler.
The Swallows Meadow development is expected to consist of six family houses and built on land donated to the community by Powys County Council.
Representatives from Castle Caereinion Community Land Trust and Mid Wales Housing Association will have a stand at the Castle Caereinion Garden Fete to be held on August 29. A site layout will be available and local people can register an interest in the development which will be for affordable rent or discounted sales, depending on what local people require and financial constraints.
Castle Caereinion CLT Chairman, Nigel Bowen said: “The Castle Caereinion CLT has been working towards the goal of being able to offer affordable housing for a considerable time. The group are enthusiastic at entering into the Partnership with the MWHA, the Powys RHE and PCC.
“We believe that it is a unique partnership and the first of its type in Wales; one that will ensure the land at Swallows Meadow will be kept in community ownership for perpetuity. The partnership will provide a mix of community democracy along with considerable housing expertise, to ensure that our aim of providing affordable homes is achieved in Castle Caereinion.
“We'd like to thank everyone who has supported us up to this point and look forward to welcoming more members of the community into the CLT. The Castle Caereinion CLT is a not-for-profit, community controlled organisation that owns, develops and manages local assets for the benefit of the local community."
Jude Boutle Mid Wales Housing’s Development Manager said “This is an exciting and unique opportunity to work closely with Powys County Council and the Castle Caereinion Community Land Trust and help the group achieve their aim of providing affordable housing for local people. We’re looking forward to the opportunity to talk to local people who may want to live in the housing and to see what people think of the plans for the site.”
