Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.
OTMS (61)
A good entry of 61 over thirty month cattle sold very well to average 126ppkg for 57 older cows, 168ppkg for 2 older bulls and 145ppkg and 133ppkg for the under 48month old heifer and steer respectively. ED & MJ Jones Gelli sold a Aberdeen Angus cow weighing 763kg to a top market price of £1106.35. D W Robinson & Sons Upper Trefnant presented a Limousin cow to £1070.68. J A Woods & Sons Kinnerton Farm presented a British Blue bull weighing 993kg and sold at £1668. ED & MJ Jones Gelli receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest prize older cow sold on the day.
FAT CATTLE (34)
A very good entry of 34 fat cattle sold to a fantastic average of 197ppkg for the steers and 183ppkg for the heifers. G E Davies & Sons Cwmbromley presented three fat heifers to a top price of 216ppkg which was purchased by M J Birwistle & Co, 208ppkg went to Moorland Food Ltd and 196ppkg was sold to G R Evans & Co Corwen. D E W Hughes Plas Gwyn presented nine steers and they sold to a top price of 200ppkg on three occasions selling to Moorland Foods Ltd. The Briarwood Produts Ltd prize of £25 goes to G E Davies & Sons Cwmbromley for the highest ppkg animal sold on the day.

CULL EWE (3691)
Yet again a massive entry of 3691 cull sheep presented for sale, saw ewes selling to average £56.72 per head and cull rams £68.59 per head. M& JE Jones & DCE Davies presented cull ewes to a top price of £135 per head. CL & C Watkins Bank Farm sold ewes to £116 per head and cull rams to £126 per head. Cull Rams topped £146 per head from GV & ML Hawker Troedrhiwfedwen. Weekly sale of Cull sheep to immediately follow the sale of fat Lambs at approximately 12noon.
STORE EWES AND STORE LAMBS.
Store Lambs.
An entry of 548 store lambs selling to a strong average of £55.75. A pen of quality texel tup lambs topped the sale at £75 from R Atkins 1 Shopfach Kerry. Texell theave lambs reached £67 from G H Edwards & Son Upper Oaks Pulverbatch. Good Quality mule wether lambs sold to £66 from M E Thomas & Son Felincoed Llanbister. Mixed and Clean lambs made £62.50 from A C Jones Caestwbwrn Llanerfyl and mixed and tup lambs up to £56.50 from RH & ME Lewis Brynhoveth Farm Penybont. Demand remains high as shown by a large crowd of potential purchasers. Sale will commence at 10.30am next week.
Store Ewes.
Good quality entry of 868 store ewes entered the market this week. Pureebred Texel yearling topped the sale at £268 from CG & GM Jones Penybryn Kerry. Two year old ewes were up to £132 from GHM Williams Caethro Welshpool. Good quality purebred Suffolk three year old ewes made £111 from E S Evans Rowanberry Westbury. Mule full mouthed ewes reached £114. Quality texel ewe lambs reached £138 from J Price Llwyn Cwmerfyn.
Breeding Rams.
Rams were up to £357 from ME & MR Roberts Woodleasowes Westbury. If you have any stock you would like to bring, please let us know sot that we can advertise them for you. Sale of Store ewes will commence at 11am next week through the ring.
ORGANIC and CONVENTIONAL STOREE CATTLE AND WEANLINGS
There was an excellent demand for both organic and Conventional Store cattle at the end of August Fair at Welshpool on Monday 29th August. With finishers having sold their cattle well over the summer there were plenty of potential buyers looking to source cattle to replenish their sheds. DAIRY COWS
An entry of 6 Dairy cattle met with an excellent trade once again on a day when yet again more could have been sold. Three heifers giving between 28 & 30kg from R & R Corfield Bronynant sold to a top of £1980, with tow others making £1930 and £1800. A BMW Degas daughter from TE & MA Jerman Penyffridd sold for £1650 whilst another made £1410. A P James & Son Gwerniago Pennal sold a 3rd Calver for £1450. A breakdown of the prices achieved where as follows: £1800+ 3 lots, 1600 - £1800 1 lot, £1400 - £1600 2 lots.
