Leisure centres in healthy food and drink drive

31/08/2011 @ 03:56

A new initiative is encouraging local sports and leisure centres to provide healthier food and drinks to their users.

Powys County Council is to provide practical information and advice to its leisure centre managers and employees to assist them in providing and promoting healthier vending food and drink choices at centres across the county. The initiative forms part of the Welsh Government’s Change for Life programme.

The council has been joined by Powys Teaching Health Board to help deliver the initiative across the county.

Cllr Rosemarie Harris, Cabinet Member for Social Services, Care and Health, said: “This is the ideal opportunity for us to contribute towards a healthier lifestyle for our residents.

“People of all ages use leisure and sport centres in the county so they will benefit from being provided healthier food and drink options.
