Local sports clubs are quids in following the latest round of grants distributed by Powys County Council.
More than £21,000 in Sportlot Community Chest grants has been handed out, with hockey, golf, cricket and fencing the big winners in Welshpool. They have received nearly £5,500 between them with clubs in Berriew, Montgomery and Llanfair receiving hand-outs too.
The scheme, which is administered by Powys County Council, is designed to make a difference to sport and physical activity locally.
Community Chest grant funding is open to sports clubs, physical activity groups and businesses for projects which help build a fitter, healthier county. Since April this year, £55,670 has already been allocated to clubs and organisations in Powys for physical activity and sport initiatives. The next closing date for applications is November 10, 2011.

- Welshpool Ladies Hockey Club, £860 for coach education and equipment for a junior section
- Welshpool Golf Club, £1500 for junior girls and ladies golf equipment
- Welshpool Cricket Club, £1500 for a practice net and junior equipment
- Welshpool Fencing Club, £1492 for equipment
- Caersws FC, £1029 for coach education and equipment
- Llansilin Table Tennis Club, £446 for equipment
- Montgomery Tennis Club, £300 for junior equipment
- Berriew Junior FC, £990 for coach education & equipment
- Llanidloes Cricket Club, £1330 to set up a new junior section and equipment
- Llanfair Ladies Hockey Club, £860 for coach education
- Mid Wales Basketball Club, £600 for coach education courses
- The Dragons Squash and Racketball Club, £1132 to set up a new club for juniors
