Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.
 
OTMS (63)
An entry of 63 over thirty month cattle sold very well to average 124ppkg for the 55 older cows, 133ppkg for 3 under 48month old heifers and 5 bulls sold to average 131ppkg. T E Williams & Sons Red House sold a Blonde D’aquataine cow weighing 791kg to a top price of £1099.49. A limousin cow from I B Humphreys Upper Bryntalch sold to £1046.54. Bull sold to a top price of £1237.60 from DM & DI Jerman Moelywigoedd. T E Williams & Sons Red House receives the Briarwood Products of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day.
  
FAT CATTLE (30)
A good entry of 30 fat cattle sold well to average 179ppkg for the steers and 172ppkg for the heifers. Jones Brothers Ystradolwyn sold three fat heifers to 196ppkg, 190ppkg and 182ppkg. J E Gittins and Sons Ystym Colwyn sold five fat steers to a top of 193ppkg and selling to average 188ppkg. Jones Brothers Ystradolwyn receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest ppkg animal sold on the day.
        
PRIME LAMBS (6609)
An entry of 6609 prime lambs, selling to average of 164ppkg.  
Supper Lights (14) to 160ppkg from W I Ellis Talwrn.
Lights (339) to 173ppkg from Gittins Giants Bank. Others to 170ppkg from P & C Marsh Glyn Farm. Average of 158ppkg.
Standards (1293) to 189ppkg from W Davies Monsfield. Others to 188ppkg from E L Evans Derlwyn. Average of 162ppkg.
Medium’s (3399) to 191ppkg from D R Owen & Sons Sandilands. Others to 184ppkg from GG & N Rees & Highfields. Average of ppkg.
Heavies (1401) to 175ppkg from T E Davies Derwendeg & D R Owen & Sons Sandilands. Others to 174ppkg from H W Davies Tynant. Average of 153ppkg.  
Over Weights (119) to 151ppkg from D P Casewell Tanrhiw. Others to 149ppkg from Bowen & Bowen Penthryn. Average of 145ppkg.
 
CULL EWE (3525)
A good entry again of 3525 cull sheep presented for sale saw ewes selling to average £50.62 per head and cull rams sold to £96.50 average. Ewes topped the sale at £110 per head from D R Owen & Sons Sandilands. BJ & MY Davies Gorse Farm sold ewes to £106 per head. Geddes agri Ltd 4 Camlad Cottage sold cull rams to £140 per head. Weekly sale of Cull Sheep to immediately follow the sale of Fat lambs at approximately 12noon. 
       
STORE EWES AND STORE LAMBS. 
Store Lambs. A quality entry of 758 store lambs selling to a reasonable average of £49.82. Texel theave lambs were up to £62 from JE & RJ Ellis Hafodycoed. Texel mixed and clean lambs reached £66 from E I Hamer Tyllewellyn. Texel tup lambs topped the sale at £90 from F J Jones Bryncwmnant. Texel wether lambs sold to £57 from A K Allen Lower Cilgee. Demand is remaining at a constant high. Sale will commence at 10.30am.
Store Ewes. A tremendous entry of store ewes this week totalling 2238. Good quality Beulah yearling ewes topped the sale at £157 from T Williams 20 Chirbury Gate. Texel two year olds were up to £131 from GG & NA Rees Highfields with texel three year old ewes reached £128 from the same vendor. Purebred texel full mouth ewes sold at £90 from Yeomans & Partners Llwynybrain. Welsh as found ewes reached £74 from W Ashton & Co waengittin. Good quality Texel ewe lambs made £86 from R Pugh Gilfach Kerry. Trade was slightly harder going this week, however demand is still fairly high as shown by a large crowd of potential purchaser at the ring side. Sale of store ewes to commence at 11am through the ring next week. 
 
COWS & CALVES()
Another fantastic trade on the Dairy heifers resulted in 4 out of 8 heifers forward being over £2000 and many more could have been sold. Leading the way was a Moet Melody heifer from J G Ellis & Partners Bryn Farm which made £2100. Making the same price was a Shottle daughter from WA & EM Morris Maestanyglwyden. Making £2000 was a Roylane Jordan heifer again from Alan Morris whilst a heifer from N Samuel lower Ystrad also hit £2000. A breakdown of all prices achieved where as follows: £2000 + 4 lots, £1800 - £2000 1 lot, 1700 - £1800 1 lot, £1000 - £1200 2 lots.

Welsh Hill Speckled Face Rams.
The Livestock market at Welshpool held the Annual Show and Sale on behalf of the Welsh Hill Speckled Faced Society. Judges on the day where Mr B Lloyd Jones and Mr I Lloyd Jones. The best yearling ram and overall champion was presented by Myrddin Jones Rhydarwydd and attracted a lot of interest in the sale ring eventually selling to 1400 guineas to Mr Hywel Watkins of Cammen Uchaf. The judges awarded the best two year old and over ram to RG& BM Harding of Delfryn Carno which was also Reserve Champion and realised 1050gns and was purchased by H & S Watkins Cammen Uchaf.
The best ram lamb was presented by Mr David Richards Maesteg. Other top prices achieved were:
£1700, £1500 & £1050 (23 rams sold a average £679 per head) from H & S Watkins Cammen Uchaf Llanfihangel.
£1900, £1050 (8 rams sold to average £678 per head) from J C Davies & Son Gelli Gethin Llanfair Caereinion
Overall Averages
68 yearlings £454, 5 Ram Lambs £119 and 30 Aged Rams £549.15.
