28/09/2011 @ 04:19

Police have reacted to appeals from Llanfair Caereinion residents to clamp down on youths running amok in the town by stepping up patrols of trouble spots.

Two arrests have been made for drug possession and alcohol has been seized from youngsters as part of a pledge by the police to curb unruly behaviour highlighted to them at a recent public meeting.

“Our pledge to the residents of Llanfair is high visibility in the town centre area especially the church grounds,” said Sergeant Darren Brown.

“Despite not having officers based at Llanfair Caereinion Police Station for some time, front line policing has not been reduced in the area and the town is and continues to be one of the safest places to live not just in our force area of Dyfed/Powys, but in the whole country.”

Townsfolk have become increasingly concerned by the levels of anti-social behaviour which have centred on hubs like the church grounds which will now be monitored regularly by the police.

“We are working closely with partner agencies at Powys County Council and social services to try and resolve a long standing neighbourhood issue and there have been two arrests with regards to another neighbourhood issue where two persons remain on bail at this time," added Sgt Brown.

“We urge members of the community to contact police if they see or witness any antisocial behaviour.  All issues can be reported on the non-emergency number of 101 or via e-mail at welshpooltownnpt@dyfed-powys.pnn.police.uk. Crimes can also be reported anonymously on 0800  555111.”
