Welshpool Livestock Sales

Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday October 3, 2011.

A good entry of 65 Over thirty month cattle sold to average 118ppkgfor the older cows, 125 for the bulls, Under 48 month old heifers sold to 133ppkg and under 48 month old steers to average 142ppkg. A limousin cow weighing 756kg from GE Davies & Sons Cwmbromley achieved the top market price of £1277.64. D W & LM Jones Bwlch sold a Herford cow weighing 847kg to £1134.98. A Welsh Black Bull from A & MP Jones Pantrhedynog made £1256.25. G E Davies & Sons receive the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day.

A reduced number of 12 Fat cattle sold to average 187ppkg for the steers and 185ppkg for the heifers. J M Rowlands Dolwen presented two fat heifers to 209ppkg which was purchased by Rikki Lloyd and 205ppkg. W G Thomas & Son Coed yr Hendre sold three heifers to 189ppkg, 188ppkg and 185ppkg and a steer to 176ppkg. J M Rowlands Dolwen receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest ppkg animal sold on the day.

An entry of 5709 prime lambs, selling to average of 164.3ppkg.

Lights (552) to 173ppkg from E & RM Owen & MOrgans Ceunant. Others to 172ppkg from E P Jones & Son Nant y Nodyn. Average of 162ppkg.

Standards (1149) to 177ppkg from I A Poole Upper Cwm Heyope. Others to 175ppkg from J B Williams Gaer Farm. Average of 162ppkg.

Medium’s (2941) to 181 from D R Owen & Sons Sandilands. Others to 179ppkg from MG & MN Hanselman Knapps Farm. Average of 162.05

Heavies (907) to 174ppkg from A & E Davies Dolau. Others to 167ppkg from G L Jones Cefnrhosan. Average of 153ppkg.  

Over Weights (50) to 147ppkg from I T Jerman Oakfields. Others to 146ppkg from A E CAsewell Bodynfoel. Average of 139ppkg.

 

A slightly reduced number of 2494 cull sheep sold to an average of £50.10 for the ewes and £87.85 for the rams. D R Owen & Sons Sandilands presented cull ewes to a top market price of £95 per head. G E Davies & Sons Cwmbromley sold ewes to £93 per head. Cull rams topped the market at £136 & £133 per head from D T A Williams Upper Bolbro. Weekly sales of cull ewes to immediately follow the sale of Fat lambs at apprimately 12 noon.

STORE EWES AND STORE LAMBS. 

Store Lambs. A total of 458 lambs entered the prize sale, selling to average of £45.57. Charollais mixed and clean lambs topped the market at £67 from A M Jones Middle Farm who also achieved 1^st prize in the judging kindly sponsored by Alan Birch of H J Lea Oakes. Whether lambs reached £61 from JT & GH Jones Talerddig Llanbrynmair. Texelx tup lambs achieved a fantastic price of £80 from N Turnbull Cysgod Cefnllwyni with theave/tup lambs reaching £54.50 from GG & MA Williams Llwnygog.  

Store Ewes. Atotal of 1618 store ewes entered in the market this week with pure bred texel ewes topping the trade at £150 from D Jones Tynrhos Llanfyllin. Two year old ewe from T E Brown Hafod made £114, while a three year old Welsh ewes made £89 from G P Jones Esgiriaeth. Full Mouth Mule Ewes from J T Owen & Co Upper Garth Newtwon obtained £100 as found welsh ewes making £74 per head.

 

An excellent trade was experienced on the cows and calves with plenty of buyers in attendance for the dispersal sale of PE & M Harris Talyrnau suckler herd. Mr Harris sold 36 Limousinx Cows and calves to a top of £1800 to average of £1399.72. Davies Boycott Hall sold two cows and calves for £1850 and £1800. A breakdown of the prices achieved there as follows:

£1800 + 3 lots, £1600 - £1800 1 lot, £1500 - £1600 9 lots, £1400 - £1500 6 lots, £1300 - £1400 15 lots, £1200 - £1300 3 lots, £1100 - £1200 3 lots, £1000 - £1100 4 lots, Less than £1000 1 lot.
