Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.
 
OTMS (98)
A very good entry of 98 Over Thirty Month Cattle sold to a very good average of 123ppkg for 92 older cows, 2 bulls to average 130ppkg and 4 under 48 month old heifers and steers to 145.5ppkg. Bowen and Bowen Penthryn sold a good quality Limousin cow weighing 793kg to a top market price of £1260.87. T E Williams & Sons Red House sold a Limousin cow to £1091.93. An Aberdeen Angus bull weighing 1164kg from J V Davies & Co Garth Fawr sold for £1385.16. Bowen & Bowen Penthryn receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day. Weekly sales of Over Thirty Month older cattle every Monday at 9am prompt.      
 
FAT CATTLE (22)
A better entry of 22 fat cattle sold to a very good average of 172ppkg for the steers and 192ppkg for the heifers. J M Rowlands Dolwen sold two very good quality Limousin heifers to 228ppkg which was bought by Rikki Lloys of Welshpool and 227ppkg was paid by M J Birtwistle & Co. D W Robinson Upper Trefnant sold a Charolais heifer to 188ppkg and a Charolais steer to 186ppkg which where both bought by Staffordshire Meat Packers. J E Gittins & Sons Ystym Colwyn sold four fat heifers to a top price of 215ppkg. J M Rowlands receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest ppkg beast sold through the ring on the day.
            
PRIME LAMBS (6271)
An entry of 6271 prime lambs, selling to average of 168.92ppkg.  
Supper Lights (34) to 160ppkg from JM & IM Lewis Erwbarf.
Lights (437) to 169ppkg from M V Wall Emporium Cottage. Others to 167ppkg from HA & ALL Humphreys & Son Brynerwest. Average of 161ppkg.
Standards (1345) to 184ppkg from DB & EFJ Gethin Dolyrheol. Others to 183ppkg from KW Lewis Tynycoed. Average of 164ppkg.
Medium’s (3132) to 187ppkg from T C Evans 10 Heritage Green. Others to 186ppkg from D & G Andrew Lower Brynygroes. Average of 171ppkg.
Heavies (1119) to 175ppkg from D R Owen & Sons Sandilands. Others to 173ppkg from DA & MG Griffiths & Son Tynllwyn. Average of 160.1ppkg.  
Over Weights (156) to 163ppkg from D PCasewell Tanrhiw. Others to 158ppkg from A E Casewell Bodynfoel. Average of 148ppkg.
 
CULL EWE (3285)
Another excellent entry of 3285 cull sheep sold very well to average £53.62 for the ewes and £68.98 for the rams. G & MA& A Jones Cefndre sold cull ewes to a top market price of £110.50 per head. S D Evans 4 Osbaston sold ewes to £108 per head. B & M James Upper Black Hill achieved a very good top price of £127 for some cull rams. Weekly Sales of Cull sheep to immediately follow the sale of fat lambs.
 
STORE EWES AND STORE LAMBS. 
Store Lambs. A strong entry of 496 store lambs entered the market this week selling to a strong average of £53. Mixed and clean lambs sold up to £68 from J & R Davies Old Hall with Charollaisx Lambs. Mule wether lambs from D & LA Ashton Cwmbernant Farm Fan sold for £56. Texel tup lambs from M Gilchrist Penygraig sold to £63.50. More store lambs required to meet strong demand.    
Store Ewes. 1395 store ewes were sold through the ring with white face mule ewes reaching £140 per head from W C G Davies & Son Tynypwll. Two year old ewes from J Edwards Mount Farm sold up to £123 while three year old mule ewes sold to £100 from E P Jones Esgairaeth. Full mouthed ewes from J T Owen & Co Upper Garth sold to £77, while Texel ewes lambs from D & G Andrew Lower Brynygroes sold to £92. Sale of Store lambs to commence at 10.30am and store ewes at 11am through the ring.
 
DAIRY COWS
A special entry of 4 Pedigree Holstein Friesian In calf heifers and 3 Pedigree Holstein Friesian bulling heifers for DA & O Williams Penylan sold with great demand at the ring side to £1480, £1400, £1360 and £1000 for the in calf heifers and £1010, £1000 and £920 for the bulling heifers. MT & JM Jones Elms Farm sold two heifers in milk to £2000 and £1900 per head. A P Jones & Son Gwerniago sold a second calver to £1640. Entries invited for the next sale of Dairy cows and Heifers which will take place on Monday 24th October 2011.
