A workshop to promote and support a scheme to help Powys farmers diversify into non-agricultural income streams will be held next week.
The Farm Diversification Scheme can provide help, advice and financial support towards viable business ventures into non-agricultural activity and also for novel approaches to diversification including funding for market research, detailed feasibility and pilot studies to investigate new ideas.
The workshop take place between 10am-1pm Welshpool Livestock Market on Wednesday, October 19.
There will also be a best practice visit between 1-4pm at the Red Ridge Centre, Welshpool, on November 30.
The scheme is part of the Rural Development Plan from the Welsh Government and run by Glasu – a local partnership of public, private and voluntary/community organisations. The scheme can offer up to 60 per cent for projects to a maximum grant of £10,000 and there is funding of up to 75 per cent towards innovative project ideas.
Representatives from Glasu, Visit Wales, Farming Connect, Powys County Council and a practical case study such as Colin Evans from Cantref Adventure Farm will be on hand to offer advice and information.
Current on-farm ventures that have been successful in receiving funding from the scheme include unique high quality tourist accommodation, an eco friendly shower block, converting a barn in to a stable block for liveries, disabled luxury camping facilities and a firewood processor.
