‘Trust’ Powys to be up there!

12/10/2011 @ 02:35

Nearly one in 10 adults in Powys is a member of the National Trust, new figures have revealed.

Almost 9% of adults across the county have joined the charity which looks after more than 300 historic houses across the UK, including Welshpool’s Powis Castle, as well as 250,000 hectares of land and 700 miles of coastline.

The figures have been released to mark the National Trust reaching the four million member milestone with membership across Wales growing to 105,324, or one in every 23 adults. In Powys 11,305 have signed up, making it the third best percentage of adult members in Wales.

Fiona Reynolds, Director General at the National Trust, said: “We owe a massive thank you to our members. Their support helps fund the vital conservation work that keeps the special places in our care open for everyone to enjoy.”

To celebrate the milestone the National Trust is inviting visitors this weekend October to share their experiences in order to create a virtual time capsule of the occasion.

Visitors can share their comments and photos through the National Trust’s Facebook group at facebook.com/nationaltrust and Twitter feed at twitter.com/nationaltrust.
