Association voices booze concern

An application for a booze licence from a new shop in Puzzle Square has been met with fierce opposition from traders and residents who have formed an association to formally object.

Last week, mywelshpool revealed that the Town Council has made its resistance to alcohol being sold in the new Polish shop due to the area already suffering problems from anti-social behaviour.

And this week an association has been formed between businesses and residents to formerly object to the licence application by the shop in the former Graham’s Fabrics building in Cumberland Place.

The Puzzle Square & Cumberland Place Residents & Traders Association has written to Powys County Council voicing concerns about the sale of alcohol from 8am-11pm from Monday to Saturday and 8am-10pm on Sundays.

A statement read: “The meeting was well attended and was unanimous in deciding to oppose any plans for the sale of alcohol in Cumberland Place. We are already experiencing difficulties from people drinking publically in the area with alcohol purchased from nearby off-licences and do not want the situation to become worse.”
