Welshpool’s balloon invasion

The Welshpool area basked in glorious sunshine this weekend and the smell of barbecue smoke was not the only rare October occurrence in the mild Autumn air.

Residents were stunned to see dozens of hot air balloons fill the skies throughout the weekend with some reports of them landing in villages and fields close to the town.

And we can confirm that they were taking part in the One Man’s Meet based out of Welshpool Airport and organised by global balloon race specialists ‘Gone-With-The-Wind’.

Readers have sent in pictures from the three day spectacular which started on Friday and brought traffic to a standstill at times.
