Look left, look right.... and look up!

Mid Wales will become a tactical war zone over the coming days as the RAF conducts low flying training over our heads.

Vital for training pilots from the coalition forces as they prepare for combat in Afghanistan, fast jets, Hercules transport aircraft as well as helicopters are set to take advantage of the clear skies this month to hone their skills.

Operational low flying by fixed wing aircraft can be as low as 100ft in a war zone, but we can expect jets to only fly as low as 250ft over the coming days – weather permitting. Late spring and the summer months are generally the busiest times for low flying as squadrons make full use of the weather.
