Fancy some Sax tonight?

20/10/2011 @ 11:41

Welshpool will enjoy a little bit (in fact a lot) of sax tonight when Welshpool Music Club present a concert by The Absolution Saxophone Quartet (pictured).

The award winning ensemble are performing for the second time in the town after previously going down a storm and tickets are still available for tonight’s show at the Methodist Church.

After forming at the Royal Northern College of Music in 2006 they will be returning to the RNCM as the first chamber group to have been awarded a full scholarship to study on the Postgraduate International Artists Diploma course. This course is the highest attainable performance degree in the UK and has been described by the RNCM as ‘the pinnacle of achievement in performance at the College’.

The group are winners of the Trevor Wye Memorial Prize (2009 and 2010) as well as the RNCM Chamber Music Prize, which lead to the group being named ‘RNCM Ensemble of the Year 2009’.

Following this they were finalists in the 2010 Royal Overseas League wind/mixed ensemble category for the centenary year and most recently, have been chosen by the ‘Making Music’ Concert Promoters Network as selected artists for 2012-13.

Absolution are also looking forward to their first performance at the Bridgewater Hall later this year after being selected by the Manchester Mid-Day Concerts Society.

Alongside celebrating more traditional works, the group is in close and continuous collaboration with composers from across the UK with the goal of expanding the saxophone quartet repertoire.

The evening begins at 7.30pm.
