Time could be called on street drinking

21/10/2011 @ 02:27

Welshpool has launched a consultancy process that could result in a ban on drinking alcohol in the town centre public areas.

An increase in groups congregating in public areas to drink cheap supermarket booze has caused concern for certain bodies trying to clamp down on anti-social behaviour. And the town council is to carry out a survey to gauge support for a ban.

Residents are being asked to record anti-social incidents and alcohol–related crimes to the police who will build up a log of incidents and, if required, a ban on alcohol in public areas could be introduced by the summer 2012.

Local police have launched several clampdowns on underage drinking over the past year which have proved successful but the problem of anti-social behaviour remains.

To report any issues, call the Welshpool police on 101.
