Bonfire night is coming... B.A.N.G. tidy!

24/10/2011 @ 04:13

Halloween and Bonfire nights are approaching and Dyfed Powys Police are asking youngsters to be responsible with a campaign called ‘B.A.N.G.’.

The Be A Nice Guy campaign has been introduced to clamp down on antisocial behaviour during the celebratory period and local police are working with communities to ensure they pass off peacefully.

Assistant Chief Constable Nick Ingram said: “Instances of antisocial behaviour can increase at this time of year. We want to tackle these issues head on and do what we can, through robust Neighbourhood Policing, to prevent them from happening.

School Liaison Officers across Dyfed Powys have provided lessons around responsible behaviour during Halloween and Bonfire night in conjunction with the Fire Service.

ACC Ingram added: “Unfortunately, celebrations can get out of hand and the consequence is often that vulnerable members of the public feel frightened or threatened in their own home. During these lessons officers ask young people to behave responsibly and to consider other members of their communities. What is one person’s fun can be another person’s fright.

“Officers will also be delivering ‘No Callers Please’ posters within their neighbourhoods, and asking children not to call at homes that have them displayed.

“We want to encourage young people to think about their actions and what effect they may have on others around them, by developing their understanding of anti-social behaviour and raising awareness of what the likely consequences will be if they act in this way.”

Is your community organising a Bonfire Night? Let us know and we’ll spread the word.
