Flowers for a “legend”

25/10/2011 @ 01:09

Friends have shared their “devastation” at the news that popular local man Edward Watson-Smyth died tragically in a road accident on Sunday night just outside Meifod.

The 28 year-old died when the car he was travelling in crashed into a tree at the side of the road. Another man was taken to hospital where his injuries were described last night (Monday) as not being life threatening.

The accident happened before 9.30pm and last night messages began appearing on social networking sites with one friend on Facebook saying he was “devastated” at having lost a “legend”.

And this morning, the first two bunches of flowers appeared at the foot of the tree just 100 metres outside of the village.

Mr Watson-Smyth has not been named officially and police have appealed for anyone with information or may have witnessed the accident to come forward.

A spokesperson said: “As a result of the collision a 28 year old male sadly lost his life. The Coroner has been advised and his family has been informed.”
