Pat on the back for Powys

25/10/2011 @ 04:12

Powys County Council has been handed an improved end-of-year report which has outlined the council’s performance during the last financial year.

The 2010/11 Annual Performance Assessment judged that overall the County Council had made “good progress” and “successfully delivered a significant number of its key objectives”. It showed that 76% of local indicators were met, or almost met their target, and a third showed an improvement since the previous year.

Of the 26 national indicators, 89% met or almost met their target. Areas where the council performed particularly well compared to other Welsh councils include Children’s Services and Education.

Improved performance has also been recognised by the Welsh Government who recently awarded Powys County Council with £1.4 million for achieving service improvement under the national Outcome Agreements scheme.

Councillor Liam Fitzpatrick, Powys County Council's Cabinet Member for Change, Communication and Performance, said: "Understanding how we perform plays an important part in how we plan future services. We recognise our strengths but acknowledge it is important not to be complacent.

"This data, alongside others such as results from our recent residents’ survey, allow the council to move forward, make well informed decisions and provide efficient services for the green heart of Wales."

Once approved, the document will be available at libraries, leisure centres and customer service points as well as at www.powys.gov.uk/changeplan
