Your county needs you!

Powys County Council is recruiting someone to help maintain the standards of members of the council and local town and community councils.

In line with other authorities across the country, the county council has operated a Standards Committee since 1999 and is now looking for an independent lay candidate to join the body.

The Standards Committee is made up of four county councillors and five independent lay members and it monitors standards of conduct of the county council. It has powers to conduct hearings into cases of misconduct and impose sanctions.

It also has a sub-committee that deals with standards relating to the county’s town and community councils.

The successful candidate will receive an annual allowance of £1,200 per annum (which includes an allowance for broadband) as well as travelling and subsistence allowances.

No formal educational or professional qualifications are needed but applicants should live in Powys, be interested in promoting high standards, understand local issues, and have sound judgement and good communications skills.

The committee normally meets four or five times per year but can meet more often if needed.
