Senior appointments for Library Service

11/11/2011 @ 03:26

Two senior appointments have been made to Powys County Council's Library Service.

Mark Jones joins the authority from Swindon Borough Council to the new senior strategic post of Principal Librarian.

Mark was born and raised in Brecon and gained a joint honours degree in Librarianship and History at the College of Librarianship Wales, Aberystwyth. Mark has 31 years experience of working in public library services - in Llanelli, Gloucestershire, Powys (branch librarian in Brecon) and most recently Swindon. His interests include walking, climbing and rugby and he is returning to Wales with his wife Carol.

Kay Thomas has been appointed Senior Librarian (Operations). Kay has a wide range of experience in public libraries, and in particular children’s services. She has held posts in Dorset, Cynon Valley, and most recently in Powys where she has been Acting Head of Schools and Children’s Library Service. Kay lives in Sennybridge and is a fluent Welsh speaker.

The appointments follow a restructure of the library service following the retirements of two senior employees - County Librarian Tudfil Adams, and Principal Librarian Helen Edwards.

Welcoming both to their new positions, Cllr Wynne Jones, said: “We are delighted to announce the new appointments and I look forward to working with them.”
