Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.
 
OTMS (85)
An increased entry of 85 over thirty month cattle sold very well to average 124ppkg for 80 cows, 130ppkg for the bull and 131ppkg for the under 48month old heifers. Top price of the day for an older cow was £1198.80 per head for a Blonde D’aquataine cow weighing 810kg from R B Bebb & Son Hendre. D S Jones & Co Fronheulog sold a Limousin cow weighing 929kg to £1161.25. A Blonde D’aquataine bull weighing 955kg from E LL Jones Bryngweaddan achieved £1337.00 per head. R B Bebb Hendre receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day. Weekly sale of Over Thirty Month Cattle sold every Monday at 9am prompt.
 
FAT CATTLE (8)
A disappointing entry of only eight fat cattle presented for sale today. Three fat steers sold to an average of 176ppkg and five heifers averaged 176ppkg. R B Bebb & Son Hendre sold two heifers to a top price of 196ppkg for a Limousinx heifer weighing 475kg and another limousinx to 185ppkg. J R Pryce Aberbechan Farm presented two steers to 184ppkg and 175ppkg. PRIME LAMBS (6087)
An entry of 6087 prime lambs, selling to a very good average of 187ppkg.  
Super Lights (20) to 161ppkg from D E W Hughes Plas Gwyn Bungalow.
Lights (504) to 205ppkg from B M Evans Coedygarth. Others to 204ppkg from PL & PG Bumford Rhos Fawr. Average of 180ppkg.
Standards (1553) to 208ppkg from D E W Hughes Plas Gwyn Bungalow and G W Jones Henfryn. Others to 206ppkg from J Edwards Mount Farm. Average of 188.5ppkg.
Medium’s (2695) to 208ppkg from G L Jones Cefnrhosan. Others to 207ppkg from Ben Evans & Co Upper Cwmadalfa. Average of 187ppkg.
Heavies (1079) to 194ppkg from G P Pugh & Son The Garth. Others to 191ppkg from M & K Brown Rock and A E Casewell Bodynfoel. Average of 178ppkg.  
Over Weights (97) to 180ppkg from W E G Evans Llwynycrwth. Others to 170ppkg from Francis Partners Penllwyn. Average of 161ppkg.

CULL EWE (2063)
Cull ewes sold to a good average of £56.85 per head and cull rams to £75.25 per head. Cull ewes topped the market at £130 per head from D G Pryce Broomhill Farm. D R Owen & Sons Sandilands sold ewes to £115 and £110 per head. Cull rams topped at £130 per head from W O Jones & Son Fraithwen. H M Powell & Son White House sold rams to £128 and £122 per head. Weekly sale of Cull Sheep to immediately follow the sale of fat lambs at approximately 12 noon.
 
STORE EWES AND STORE LAMBS. 
Store Lambs. A fantastic entry of 940 store lambs entered the market this selling to an even better average of £61 of which included a large of hill lambs. Theave lambs from N D Jones Waen Llaithdu sold to £68.20 while suffolkx lambfrom C Lloyd Ty Ucha Trefeglwys sold to £76.50 and suffolkx lambs from EJ & AJ Roberts Longlands sold to £77.
 Store Ewes. A smaller entry of breeding ewes entered the market this week with white faced Mule Ewe lambs selling to £84 from Frnacis Partners Penllwyn.
More Store Lambs are required to meet demand as seen by a large number of prospective buyers. Sale to commence at the same time of 10.30am next Monday 21st November.
 
COWS & CALVES
An entry of 21 Cows and Calves and In Calvers met with a steadier trade compared to last week, but nevertheless quality was still well sought after. RE & LV Jones Farchwell sold two 2006 born Limousinx cows with Limousinx heifer calves at foot for £1530 and £1490. A Charolaisx 1st calver with a Limousinx heifer calf presented by G W Jones Graig Fach sold for £1250. Three In Calf heifers from D H Butler Gorwel Deg sold for £860, £880 and a top of £950 for a Simmentalx heifer 4-5 months In calf. I B Chapman Fronhaul sold five British Bluex cows 3rd/4th calvers In calf to a Limousin bull to a top of £950 to average £844. I & J Evans Llwyn Hywel sold a British Bluex 1st calver with a British Bluex heifer calf for £1310. A breakdown of the prices achieved where as follows:
£1500 + 1 lot, £1400 - £1500 1 lot, £1300 - £1400 2 lots, £1200 - £1300 2 lots, £1100 - £1200 2 lots, £1000 -£1100 2 lots, £900 - £1000 3 lots, £800 - £900 8 lots.
