Countdown to police election

16/11/2011 @ 03:19

One year today and the people of Dyfed and Powys will have elected a new Police and Crime Commissioner for the first time.

Candidates are expected to launch their campaigns over the coming months ahead of the elections on November 15, 2012 when the winner will replace the Dyfed-Powys Police Authority in taking responsibility for ensuring efficient and effective local policing.

Their role will also include setting the policing budget and Council Tax precept as well as ensuring value for money is delivered.

These changes mean that residents of Powys will be able to directly influence who will represent their views and scrutinise local policing services by holding the Chief Constable to account on their behalf.

Delyth Humfryes, Chair of Dyfed Powys Police Authority, said “Having served as a Member of the Police Authority for the last 13 years, I am passionate about the policing service within the Dyfed Powys area. I would like to stress the importance of all members of our communities voting in the elections for Police and Crime Commissioner this time next year to choose the right person to safeguard and develop the good work undertaken by the Police Authority in ensuring that the high standards of service of Dyfed Powys Police are maintained.”
