Sun bed users have long been the subject of jokes for their orange winter glow but the serious issue of misuse will be highlighted by a training course in Welshpool later this month.
Businesses across North Powys that provide sun beds for public use are being urged to attend the training course to help them implement new regulations.
The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) Supervision of Artificial Tanning Equipment Course will be held at Neuadd Maldwyn from 10am-4pm on November 28.
Cllr Geraint Hopkins, Cabinet Member for Environment and Regulation, said: “Growing concerns about the association between skin cancer and sun beds has resulted in a set of new regulations which place additional controls on sun bed use in Wales.
“I urge businesses that operate sun beds to attend one of these courses to help them comply with the new regulations.”
The new regulations came into force on October 31 and one of the new rules prevents the use of sun beds for under 18s. The course is being offered at a heavily subsidised rate of £35 and can be booked by contacting Lorna Morris on 01938 551055.
