Speed’s Friday visit cancelled “weeks ago”

 

Fans from the Welshpool area turned up to meet Speed at a Matchday Legends event prior to the club’s match, but they were left disappointed when he did not appear.

 

However, the club said this morning on its web site that the engagement at The Venue, Oswestry, was cancelled some time ago.

 

It read: “He had been due to appear as a guest in the inaugural ‘Matchday Legends’ pre-match event at The New Saints v Airbus on Friday night, but the engagement was cancelled several weeks ago.”

 

Local media still promoted the appearance unaware it had been cancelled and one fan contacted us last night to say he had attended with his family and was only told Mr Speed was not attending when he got there.

 

The football world and lead politicians have praised Mr Speed, who was found dead in his Cheshire home in the early hours of Sunday. He leaves a wife and two children.
