A woman was punched in the face and a man standing close by was knocked out in what police are describing as an “unprovoked” assault in Welshpool town centre on Saturday night.
Reports said the woman was punched at around 3.25am before a group of men attacked the male, who is said to have tried to intervene and was standing close by. Such was the savagery of the attack, the man was left unconscious and only came out of hospital this morning (Tuesday). Police have not revealed whether CCTV filmed the assault on the Cross, just outside the Royal Oak.
“A man has been arrested and bailed pending further inquiries,” said a police statement. “In the meantime anyone with information can contact PC 598 Blackler at Welshpool Police Station on 101.”
