Christmas comes to Welshpool!

02/12/2011 @ 12:10

Christmas officially starts in Welshpool this weekend when the Festive Season gets underway tonight (Friday) with the switching on of the Christmas Lights.

Hundreds of people will pack into the town centre to watch the new Christmas lights illuminate the town at 7pm, Carnival Queen Rhian Thomas will flick the switch. This follows a parade from the Tourist Information Centre to the Town Hall. Anyone can join in the parade, with fancy dress encouraged and prizes up for grabs for the best. Santa is expected to make an appearance and there will be a table top sale in the Town Hall’s Corn Exchange.

The Winter Festival itself is then held from 10-4pm tomorrow (Saturday) with a variety of events and entertainment in and around the Town Hall area.

Parking will be suspended in Broad Street and High Street on Saturday to accommodate the market stalls and residents are asked to park elsewhere from tonight until 6pm tomorrow.

The festivities continue into Sunday when the town is invited to a festive sing-a-long in the Corn Exchange finishing with another visit from Father Christmas.
