Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.
 
OTMS (45)
A reduced entry of OTM’s selling to an average of 120ppkg for the cows and 145ppkg for the steers. The older cows sold to a top price of £948.33 for a Welsh Black cow weighing 771kg from E & D Jones Lluestwen. M R Williams Wern Holdings sold a Friesian cow weighing 754kg to £882.18. Two Limousin cows under 72 months from G P Pugh & Son The Garth sold to £1124.80 each. Under 72 month old steers from R E Peate 6 Nantllachar sold to £1005.21 and £944.24. E & D Jones Lluestwen receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day.    
 
FAT CATTLE (5)
Only five fat cattle on offer for sale today selling to an average of 175ppkg for the steers and 203ppkg for the heifers. H W Davies Tynant sold a Limousin heifer weighing 496kg and achieving 217ppkg. D S Jones & Co Fronheulog sold three heifers to 207ppkg, 204ppkg and 187ppkg. H W Davies Tynant receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest ppkg animal sold on the day.
 
PRIME LAMBS (6504)
An entry of 6511 prime lambs, selling to an excellent average of 193ppkg.    
Super Lights (up to 25.4kg) (122) to 181ppkg from W I Ellis Talwrn. Others to 179ppkg from M & H Evans Tycerrig. Average of 172ppkg.
Lights (25.5kg to 32kg) (1251) to 207ppkg from G J E Hughes & Son Old House. Others to 197ppkg from E, LA & RM Williams Llanllwyda. Average of 185ppkg.
Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (1574) to 214ppkg from M R Jones & Son Lawnt. Others to 210ppkg from A H Morgan Penybryn. Average of 192ppkg.
Mediums (39.1kg to 45.5kg) (2555) to 225ppkg from E A Marston New House. Others to 213ppkg from G J E Hughes Old House. Average of 196ppkg.
Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (701) to 206ppkg from B L Griffiths Lower Penygelli. Others to 205ppkg from A P Humphreys Llwynmadoc. Average of 187ppkg.   
Over Weights (over 52kg) (210) to 183ppkg from D R Owen & Sons Sandilands. Other to 181ppkg from RE & BR Roberts Hendre. Average of 171ppkg.
Weekly Sales of Fat Lambs at 10.30am.
 
CULL EWE (2112)
An entry of 2112 cull sheep sold to a good average price of £65.07 per head for the ewes and £84.95 for the rams. W R P Jones Pant sold ewes to a top price of £143 per head. ME & MB Roberts Woodleasowes sold ewes to £131 per head. Cull rams topped at £144 per head from W V Davies Trewythen. Weekly Sale of Cull sheep to immediately follow the sale of Fat Lambs.
 
STORE EWES AND STORE LAMBS. 
Store Lambs. A strong entry of 847 lambs entered the market this week selling to a slightly reduced but good average of £63. Top price theave lambs from D Gregory Llyfriniog Uchaf realised £74 while Texelx mixed and clean lambs from T G Lewis Brynycil achieved £77.50. Wether lambs from G F Gethin Pentre made £72 with tup lambs from DT & C E Jones Hafod realised £77.20. There will be NO Store Lambs for sale next Week. Sale of store lambs to commence as usaual on Monday 2nd January 2012 at 10.30am Prompt.
  
DAIRY COWS
The final sale of Dairy Cattle in 2011 met with a good entry of 17 and a good trade with eight heifers being over £1940. Leading the way at £2000 was a Moet Melody daughter giving 25kg a day presented by R R Corfield & Co Bronynant. Two Del Cashmore heifers from the same home made £1950 and £1940. Presented by MT Jones Elms Farm where a pair of heifers giving 5 to 5½ galloons per day which made £1950 and £1990. K S Jones sold a 2nd calver for £1620. Whilst four heifers by Fenshall Silver sold to a top price of £2000 to average £1910. W A Morris presented a British Friesian heifer which sold for £1850.   
The overall average for the heifers was £1887. A breakdown of the prices where as follows. £1900 - £2000 8 lots, £1700 - £1900 2 lots, £1500 - £1700 3 lots, less than £1500 2 lots.
Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful sale of in lamb Texel Ewes on behalf of the Shropshire and Border Texel Club.
Although the catalogue drew an entry of 140 In lamb ewes, 131 were forward on the day with 118 of the ewes being sold.
Average where as follows:
104 yearling ewes £333.98 and 7x2year old ewes £351.00, 4x3 year old ewes, 4x4year old £212.63
 
Mr Frank Rushton of the Freshfileds Flock judged the show and the result were as follows:

1st R E J Pierce Oldfields Farm sold for 620gns selling to RE Davies Boycott Hall.
2nd Claybury Texels and was not sold.
3rd J T Bebb Polemere sold for 240gns selling to DR Owen & Sons Sandilands.
Yearling Ewes
1st & Champion was awarded to lot 119 from R N Bennett Upper Hall and was purchased by S J Smith Penybryn for 2000gns.
2nd & Reserve Champion went to lot 68 from NE & JA Gibbs Bettonfield Farm which was bought by E Lewis & Co Tanygraig Llanidloes for 420gns.
3rd R J Hughes & Co Argoed Farm selling to 420gns to M & S Jones Lower Forest
