Catch the Christmas tyre slasher

28/12/2011 @ 06:49

Police have revealed the shocking extent of a knife wielding thug who ruined Christmas for a number of Welshpool families by slashing the tyres on 23 cars.

Residents in the Gungrog Road area awoke to find that tyres has been indiscriminately vandalised in the early hours of Christmas morning, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

Police have called the spree “mindless” and believe the guilty person or persons is probably local and have urged the public to come forward with information.

“Twenty-three different vehicles are reported to have had at least one tyre slashed,” said a police spokesperson. “It was mindless vandalism and we urge anyone with information to come forward by contacting Welshpool Police Station through 101.”

Mywelshpool was inundated with angry emails from residents after we broke the story on Boxing Day with one reader saying the guilty should be “given lashes” because “he or she was obviously carrying a blade on a night out in Welshpool”.

Another who had their tyres slashed said: “It was sad to see my husband, son and neighbours having to change their tyres on Christmas morning before they could enjoy Christmas Day with their families. My only wish is that the person or persons guilty of this crime get everything they deserve in the New Year.”

There were unconfirmed reports that cars parked in Welshpool Hospital Car Park were vandalised, including an on-call nurse’s vehicle which was then unusable on Christmas Day.

Did you see anything or has someone bragged about carrying out this mindless crime? Call 101 and ask to be connected to Welshpool Police Station.
