Cllr Barry Thomas, Chairman of Powys County Council Chairman, delivers his New Year’s Message:
It has been an honour to be elected as your Chairman of Council for 2011-12.
Since I took up office in May, I have been raising the profile of dyslexia as my chosen charity. As part of this, I have recently completed a series of roadshows to meet others with the condition and it was a pleasure to meet those of you who came along.
Building on this, I am delighted to announce that I will be hosting a public meeting on Saturday 28th January at 10am in County Hall in Llandrindod Wells to discuss the possibility of forming a countywide dyslexia organisation or support group. I extend an open invitation to anyone from Powys who has an interest in dyslexia to come along. It is your opportunity to have your say about what support is needed, and get involved in what I hope will be an exciting way forward.
In the months ahead, it will also be a period of change for the council with local government elections in May.
I would like to wish everyone a happy and prosperous New Year. We are of course in difficult times and I am sure each of us will face challenges in 2012. But I wish everyone good health for the year ahead.
