Council’s online survey on fairness

05/01/2012 @ 02:03

Welshpool area residents are invited to voice their experiences of inequality and fairness through Powys County Council and Powys teaching Health Board.

An online survey can be found at www.powys.gov.uk/haveyoursay while paper copies of the questionnaire are available from Welshpool Library.

The survey is part of research being carried out to find out “How fair is Powys?” and follows two recent public events in Newtown and Brecon.

In addition, if there are groups of people who would like to meet the council’s Equalities Officer, they are requested to make contact in January via equalities@powys.gov.uk.

The information gathered in this survey – which runs up to the end of this month - will be used to help shape the council’s and the health board’s equality objectives for the coming years.

Councillor Liam Fitzpatrick is the council’s cabinet member with responsibility for equalities. He commented: “Research shows acute inequalities exist for certain groups of people living in Wales, limiting what a person can do, and can be.

“The health board and the council want to know your views about issues of inequality for people living in Powys so that we can take steps to make things better for people in the future.”

Amanda Smith is the Interim Director of Workforce and Organisational Development with Powys teaching Health Board and she explained: “We will be looking at our service areas from a number of different perspectives to see that, as public services, we are meeting our responsibilities.”

These perspectives are age, sex, race, religion or belief, disability, sexuality, gender re-assignment, pregnancy or maternity and marriage or civil partnership.
