Campaigners against plans for up to 600 more wind turbines in Montgomeryshire will today (Thursday) make their views known to an influential Assembly committee in Cardiff.
The National Assembly for Wales' Environment and Sustainability Committee will here evidence from the Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales, Montgomeryshire Against Pylons and the Cambrian Mountains Society. The meeting forms part of the Assembly's inquiry into Welsh energy policy.
Chaired by Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas, the committee will also hear from barrister Neville Thomas QC who is representing the Shropshire and Mid Wales Alliance. He is expected to question the Tan8 planning guidance on windfarm development.
The committee will also hear about plans for a new power line and pylons cutting across Montgomeryshire to take extra power from the windfarms into the National Grid in Shropshire. National Grid is expected to announce its preferred route shortly, which includes a 19-acre electricity sub-station at either Cefn Coch near Llanfair Caereinion or Abermule near Newtown.
