“Our world is immeasurably poorer”

Police have now confirmed the identities of the two men killed in the air accident on Long Mountain last Wednesday.

Bob Jones, aged 60, a well known local businessman who ran the airport at Welshpool died alongside experienced pilot Steve Carr (right), aged 55, from Ruthin.

Both families have asked to be left alone to grieve while investigators continue their search through the wreckage for clues as to what brought the plane down in near perfect flying conditions.

In a statement, Mr Jones’s family said they were “shocked” and “saddened”.

“Bob (Below) was a much loved husband, father and friend,” it read: “He was a passionate pilot and was much respected in the Mid Wales community and beyond. We would now like to be left alone in peace to cope with the loss.”

Mr Carr’s family said in their statement: “Steve’s family and friends are devastated by the news. He was loved, and will be missed, so much. Words are inadequate to describe his many qualities as a devoted and loving father, husband, brother and friend. Our world is immeasurably poorer for the loss. We are in deep mourning, and would like to be left alone to grieve in peace.”

The remote location of the crash has made the investigation into the accident tricky and it is expected that all wreckage will be relocated to the Air Accident Investigation headquarters at Farnborough where everything from engine failure to a bird strike will be considered.
