School closure text service

17/02/2012 @ 02:08

With the area’s school kids set to return next week, parents are reminded to sign up for a new service which lets them know if the school is closed during adverse weather.

Powys County Council launched the My Powys Account service last year which allows residents to sign up for school closure information on the go, as and when the decision is made by the school.

The new service follows on from three severe winters where many schools in the county had to close due to extreme weather conditions, although this mild winter has not seen a closure yet.

Cllr Liam Fitzpatrick, Cabinet Member for Change, Communication and Performance, said: “This new service means that school children and parents can find out quickly if their school is closed without having to phone the school or even check the website, leaving people more time to plan the day ahead.
