Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.
 
OTMS (39)
An entry of 39 Over Thirty Month Cattle sold to an excellent average of 127ppkg for 32 older cows and 2 bulls, 151ppkg for the 4 heifers under 48 months. CV & EM Lewis Garth Vaughan sold a Limousin cow weighing 711kg to a top market price of £1230.03. R B Jones Llwynobin sold a Limousin cow to £1107.07. R B Jones Llwynobin also sold a Younger British Blue cow to £1186.35. CV & EM Lewis Garth Vaughan receive the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day. Sale of Over Thirty Month Old Cattle every Monday at 9am Prompt.
 
FAT CATTLE (7)
A disappointing entry of only 7 fat cattle sold to average 206ppkg for the steers and 190.7ppkg for the heifers. IL & AJ Powell Lower Cwmydalfa sold two Limousin steers to a top price of 214ppkg and 209ppkg which where both purchased by local butcher Rikki Lloyd of Welshpool. BW & DE Davies Castle Wright sold Limousin heifers to a top price of 195ppkg. The Briarwood Products Ltd this week is awarded to IL & AJ Powell Lower Cwmydalfa for the highest ppkg animal sold on the day. Weekly sale of Fat cattle every Monday at approximately 12.30pm. An entry of 3963 prime hoggets, sold to average 197ppkg this week.   
Super Lights (up to 25.4kg) (71) to 193ppkg from W I Ellis Talwrn. Others to 188ppkg from D G Jones Cefnhir Fawr. Average of 184ppkg.
Lights (25.5kg to 32kg) (377) to 209ppkg from I P Jones Penygraig. Others to 200ppkg from GM & G Evans Plasiolyn. Average of 191ppkg
Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (971) to 238ppkg from RGK Hoddnett Willey Farm. Others to 225ppkg from GW & WW Jones Hill Farm. Average of 199ppkg.
Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (1465) to 224ppkg from E H Pennie & Son Gwern yr Ychain. Others to 223ppkg from EG & DM Davies Lower Bolbro. Average of 197ppkg.
Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (587) to 212ppkg from D R Owen & Sons Sandilands. Average of 211ppkg from I W Richards Glanllyn. Average of 183  
Over Weights (over 52kg) (379) to 184ppkg from CL & C Watkins Bank Farm. Others to 181ppkg from Evan Davies & Co Red House. Average of 157ppkg.    .

CULL EWE (1891)
An entry of 1891 cull sheep sold very well to average £68.61 for the ewes and £81.62 for the rams. A Top price of £146 per head was achieved for ewes from WJC Pryce Prenafal. I W Richards Glanllyn sold ewes to £130 per head. O LL Jerman & Sons Tuhwntirafon sold cull rams to £128 per head. Weekly sale of Cull Sheep to immediately follow the sale of Fat Lambs at approximately 12noon.
 
STORE LAMBS & IN LAMB EWES
A good entry of 536 store lambs selling to an average of £54 per head. Texelx Mixed and clean lambs from R T Watkins Coed y Deri sold to £72.50 while Charollias tup lambs from the same home achieved £75. More store lambs required next week, Sale will commence at 10.30am.
A Larger entry of In lamb ewes sold this week with as found welsh yearling ewes scanned with twins sold to £90 and pure bred Texel ewes scanned for twins by a Texel/Beltex tup realised £174. Mule ewe lambs scanned with twins by a Charollias tup sold to £138 from W T Barnett Rhuvid. A special entry of 100 In Lamb Mulex & Welsh ewes In Flock Ages due to lamb about the 25th March,  next week being part of a genuine dispersal. Sale will commence immediately after the store lambs.
A good entry of ewes with lambs at foot. A Suffolk x Yearling ewe with Suffolk twin lambs sold to £222 From J Payne Plas Trehelig, while a three year old Texel Ewe with twin lambs at foot achieved £228 from Evans Llwynhywel. More ewes and lambs required as shown by the large number of potential purchaser and fierce bidding.
An increased entry of 36 cade lambs selling to an average of £20.86. Top price of the day went to a Suffolkx lamb from DES & ER Bickerton Lloran Ucha achieving £30.
 
COWS & CALVES
A Catalogue entry of 11 cows and calves sold on Monday 20th February. Topping the sale was a Limousin 2nd Calver with her British blue Bull calf at foot which achieved £1880 from I & J Evans Llwyn Hywel Llanilar. F J Owen & Co sold 5 Blonde D’aquataine cows with Blonde D’aqautaine calves at foot which sold to atop price of £1610 for a 2004 born cow with a heifer calf at foot. Next Sale of Cows and Calves will take place on Monday 5th March.
