Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.
 
OTMS (64)
An entry of 64 Over Thirty Month Cattle sold to an excellent trade. 62 cows averaged 139ppkg and 2 bulls at 153ppkg. Top price of the day for an older cow was £1399.65 for a Limousin cow weighing 903kg from T & A & R Tudor Llysun. G E Davies & Son Cwmbromley sold an older cow to £1284.66 and a cow under 72 months to £1373.60. CV & EM Lewis Garth Vaughan sold a younger cow to £1325.16. T & A & R Tudor Llysun receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older Cow sold on the day.Sale of Over Thirty Month Old Cattle every Monday at 9am Prompt.
 
FAT CATTLE (15)
An entry of 15 fat cattle sold to a fantastic trade of 205ppkg for the steers and 208ppkg for the heifers.
GW & BA Haynes Trefnant Isaf sold four excellent quality heifers to 226ppkg and 212ppkg which where bought by Glyn Morris for M J Birtwistle & Co and 218ppkg and 215ppkg was paid by Rikki Lloyd butcher of Welshpool. CJ & ME Williams Minysarn presented two fat steers to 222ppkg and 218ppkg. GW & BA Haynes Trefnant Isaf receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest ppkg animal sold on the day. More Fat Cattle urgently required to meet a very strong demand from potential purchasers. An entry of 3401 prime hoggets, sold to average 204ppkg this week.   
Super Lights (up to 25.4kg) (24) to 192ppkg from R G Bebb & Co Caermynach. Average of 187ppkg.
Lights (25.5kg to 32kg) (451) to 211ppkg from DB & EFJ Gethin Dolyrheol. Others to 208ppkg from A T Edwards Glanaber. Average of 197ppkg
Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (523) to 264ppkg from D G Jones Cefnhir Fawr. Others to 247ppkg from D M Jones Pwll. Average of 210ppkg.
Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (1363) to 230ppkg from A J Powell Llwynmawr Mill. Others to 226ppkg from D M Jones Pwll. Average of 203ppkg.
Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (680) to 214ppkg from P J Phillips Lower Treverward. Others to 199ppkg from DSW Jones & Co Ysguboriau. Average of 185ppkg. 
Over Weights (over 52kg) (268) to 182ppkg from R B Jones Llwynobin. Others to 178ppkg from Cream Team Ltd. Average of 169ppkg.    .

CULL EWE (1728)
An entry of 1728 cull sheep selling very well to average £65.21 for the ewes and £79.11 for the rams. S& R Evans Green Farm sold cull ewes to a top price of £155 per head. J H H Jerman & Co Wernddu sold ewes to £127 per head. Weekly sale of Cull Sheep to immediately follow the sale of Fat Hoggets at approximately 12 noon.
 
STORE LAMBS & IN LAMB EWES
An entry of 391 store lambs selling to a good average of £58 reflecting the time of year. Texelx theave lambs from S Lane New Hall achieved £72.50 while suffolkx Mixed and Clean lambs from R T Watkins Coed Y Deri realised £74. Mixed and Tup lambs from V E Lewis & Son The Garn sold to £65.50.
A Large entry of 177 store In Lamb ewes comprising of a large entry from the same home being part of a reduction sale. Mule yearling ewes from M Jones & Son Brow Farm Norbury scanned with a lamb and a half achieved £158 while mule ewes from the same home in flock ages sold to £152.Welsh As Found ewes scanned for twins by a Charollais tup sold to £59 fromJ Cartwright Neuadd Fach.
An entry of 61 ewes and lambs entering the market this week with a top price of the day going to a three year old mule ewe with twins Charollais lambs selling to £208 from R I Owen & Co Cwmfynnon. A As Found ewe with twin lambs from R C Lloyd Coed cae sold to £168. A reduced number of 16 cade lambs selling to an average of £28.81. Top price of the day went to a Texelx tup lamb from S A Perkins Upper Farm achieving £40. More Store Sheep required next week, Sale to commence from 10.30am.
 
DAIRY COWS
Another good entry of 14 milkers met with a grand trade once again. A Winston Stomatic 2nd calver fron K S Jones & Son sold for £2070. Three heifers from M T Jones The Elms Farm giving 5-6 galloons per day sold from £1870 to a top of £1950. A Eastview Mason sired heifer presented by R R Corfield & Co Bronynant sold for £1880. Leading the way in an entry of 9 excellent heifers from T G Phillips & Co Burgedin were two heifers sired by Ca – lil Marlin which sold for £2140 and £2000. A Far ola Debbie Jo Drake daughter sold for £1890. Whilst two Autumn Ridge Matson daughter made £1860 and £1820. Overall Burgedins nine heifers averaged £1832. The Marktet average for heifers was £1868. A breakdown of prices were as follows: £2000+ 3 lots, £1800 - £2000 8 lots, £1600 - £1800 2 lots, Less than £1600 1 lot.
