Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.
 
OTMS (43)
Slightly less Over thirty Month Cattle on offer for sale this week, selling to an average of 128ppkg for the 37 older cows, 121ppkg for the 4 Bulls and 2 under 48 month steers averaged 165ppkg. E H Pennie & Son Gwern Yr Ychain sold a Limousin cow weighing 705kg to a top price of £1120.95. D R Owen & Sons Sandilands sold a Limousin cow weighing 706kg to £1044.88. A friesian cow from James Brooke Weston Farm achieved £1016.52. Under 72 month old cows topped at £1382.10 for a Limousin cow weighing 813kg from CV & EM Lewis Garth Vaughan. Messers Lewis also sold another younger cow to £1135.62. E H Pennie & Son Gwern Y Ychain receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day. FAT CATTLE (5)
A disappointing entry of only five fat cattle selling to an excellent average of 207ppkg for the heifers and 181ppkg for the steers. EE & MJ Jones & Sons Cwmbychan sold two limousin steers to 208ppkg and 188ppkg.  V T Hamer Trinannt sold a Limousin heifer to 207ppkg. EE & MJ Jones & Sons Cwmbychan receives the Briarwood Product Ltd prize of £25 for the highest ppkg animal sold on the day. Weekly sale of Fat cattle every Monday at approximately 12.30pm. Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (973) to 232ppkg from I E Roberts & Son Maesdyfnant. Others to 225ppkg from P J Phillips Lower Treverward. Average of 206ppkg.
Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (1263) to 259ppkg from R A Davies Llwynderw. Others to 236ppkg from I W Richards Glanllyn. Average of 205ppkg.

CULL EWE (1474)
An entry of 1474 cull sheep sold to average £64.27 for the ewes and £87.14 for the cull rams. J A Williams Llechwedd Ddyrys sold cull ewes to a top price of £146 per head. Tynybryn Farm sold ewes to £145 per head. Cull rams topped at £128 per head from J C Bright & Son Upper House. Weekly sale of cull sheep to immediately follow the sale of Fat Hoggets at approximately 12 noon.
 
STORE LAMBS & IN LAMB EWES
A reduced entry of 178 store lambs selling to a stronger average of £68.78 with a larger number of continentalx lambs on offer. Theave lambs from DM & DI Jerman Moelywigoedd sold to £77 while Texelx mixed and clean lambs from K D Owen Maesgwyn Uchaf sold to £80.50.
A large entry of 299 In lamb ewes and breeding ewe lambs. Ewe lambs not scanned in lambs from GG & N Rees Highfields Farm sold to £99 while Suffolkx ewe lambs scanned in lamb for singles by a Suffolk/Texel tup sold to £122 from FG & G Mountford Middle Heldre.
An entry of 175 couples with a yearling Texelx Ewe with a single Suffolk lamb from A Derwas Plas Trehelig selling to £205 with as found ewes with single lambs from the same home achieving £165. As found Beulah Speckled ewes with twin lambs from JBC Gwillim Bwlch Garth sold to £140 while as found mule ewes with twin lambs from R C Lloyd Coed Cae sold to £180.
An increased entry of 96 cade lambs this week selling to an average of £11.38 reflecting the number on offer. Top price of the day went to T A Morgan & Son Old Castle for a Charollaisx ram lamb.
 
COWS & CALVES
A seasonal entry of 7 cows and calves met with a reasonable trade. Top price of the day was £1780 for a Charolaisx cow, seven months in calf to a limousine Bull from Davies Brothers Lan Farm Gwynfe. Presented by F J Owens & Co Lletyngynfach was a 2008 Blondex cow with a Blonde Bull calf at foot which sold for £1500. From the same home was a 2003 Blonde cow with a Welsh Black heifer calf which made £1210. A breakdown of the prices achieved where as follows: £1500+ 2 lots, £1200 – £1500 2 lots, £1000 -£1200 3 lots.
