One for the Ladies

As work on revamping The Armoury continues, officials have confirmed that they will open Welshpool's first Ladies-only gym on May 5 during its charity open day.
The health and fitness centre has undergone an extensive overhaul during the last 12 months and since Christmas the hall has been spruced up, adding a stage for classes and an overall smart look, and work has started on creating the new facility for women.
That work is expected to finish and coincide with the unveiling of a new reception area, giving The Armoury the look and feel of a state-of-the-art gymnasium.
“We have listened to what a lot of people have been telling us over the past year, and one of the main suggestions was the ladies-only gym,” said Manager, Chris Greatorex. “Some ladies feel more comfortable working out in a single-sex gymnasium so we have invested in creating this for them. It will be kitted out with the latest equipment and be open throughout the day and evening like the main gym.”
The Armoury is hosting a charity Open Day with a difference on May 5 when anyone is invited to have a look around to try out the facilities and classes. Challenges, linked to famous global landmarks and locations, will also be set.
There will be a bouncy castle in the hall from 10am-10pm for families and from 2pm-4.30pm there are free classes in the car park. Rikki Lloyd will have a food stall all day and there will also be a bar available from 3pm onwards.
There will be gym challenges during the afternoon and also challenges in the main hall. It is £5 to sign up to the challenge which goes to Marie Curie Cancer Care with the clear message to ‘come along, join in and have a look around’.
