Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.
 
OTMS (23)
A reduced entry of only 23 over thirty month old cattle sold an average of 125.8ppkg for the older cows and 145ppkg for the bulls. E H Pennie & Son Gwernychain sold two Limousin cows weighing 749kg and 778kg to a top price of £1235.85 and £1135.88 respectively. A British Blue bull weighing 861kg from I T Jerman Oakfields sold for £1239.84. E H Pennie & Son Gwernychain receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day.Weekly sale of Over Thirty Month older cattle at 9am prompt every Monday. We will be holding a section for TB Tested animals. This will take place in ring 2 and will commence at 9am. FAT CATTLE (13)
An entry of 13 fat cattle sold very well, selling to average 202ppkg for the steers and 226ppkg for the heifers. B & CJ Francis Glanbanwy sold a fat heifer to a top price of 226ppkg. An entry of 5 fat steers from Evans Brothers Tynewydd sold to a top price of 225ppkg averaging 212ppkg. B & CJ Francis Glanbanwy receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest ppkg beast sold on the day.

An entry of 200 spring lambs, selling to an overall average of 267.3ppkg
Standards (49) to 286ppkg from R J Lunt Planfa. Average of 275ppkg.
Mediums (146) to 276ppkg from J & Beavan & Sons Winsbury Farm. Others to 268ppkg from E L Andrew Trewern Cottage. Average of 265ppkg. 
Heavies (5) to 237ppkg from J Corfield & Sons Fairfield. Others to 234ppkg from F W Humphreys & Sons Brook House. Average of 232ppkg. 
 
PRIME HOGGETTS (5200)
An entry of   5200 prime hoggets, sold to average of 214.19ppkg this week.   
Lights (25.5kg to 32kg) (106) to 232ppkg from Evan Davies & Co Red House. Others to 229ppkg from S Beamond Cwmcarnedd. Average of 220ppkg
Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (533) to 221ppkg from PJ & EJ Beecroft Haywood Farm. Others to 219ppkg from W E Hyde The Furlongs. Average of 209ppkg.
Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (2229) to 235ppkg from FG & G Mountford Middle Heldre. Others to 227ppkg from D M Jones Pwll. Average of 214ppkg.
Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (1333) to 206ppkg from Lythwood Sheep Ltd. Others to 203ppkg from D M Jones Pwll. Average 185ppkg.  
Over Weights (over 52kg) (886) to 190ppkg from E H Pennie & Son Gwernychain. Others to 179ppkg from RL & ME Jukes Tynybryn.  Average of 167ppkg.    .

CULL EWE (1599)
A seasonal entry of 1599 cull sheep selling to average £77.90 for the ewes and £82.88 for the rams.
BE & BE Langford Lletymeibion and TD & MJ Orrells Middle Llegodig both sold cull ewes to a top price of £146 per head. Cull rams sold to a top price of £144 per head from C & A Davies & Son Dwyrhiw Farm. Weekly sale of cull sheep to immediately follow the sale of fat lambs and hoggets at approximately 12noon.  
  
STORE LAMBS & IN LAMB EWES
A reduced entry of 71 store lambs entering the market this week, selling to an average of £69 per head. Top price of the day went to Mr A Love Rownal Farm for Texelx Ewe Lambs selling to £87 per head.
An increased entry of couples entered the market this week and met by a strong demand. Full mouth Texelx ewes with twin lambs from B L Griffiths Lower Penygelli realising £218, with As Found mule ewes from A M Rawlings Grange Side Farm with strong twin lambs at foot achieving £232.
Trade on the younger ewes was also sharp with Texelx Yearling with single lambs at foot from HI & LJ Lloyd Weirglodd Deg realising £174. Strong Suffolk ewes with single lambs at foot from I & J Evans Llwynhywel achieved £173. More couples required next week to meet the strong demand. Sale to commence at 10.30am after the sale of store lambs.
An increased entry of 95 cade lambs selling to an average of £21. Top price of the day went to Dai Jones Berthlwyd reasling £40 for a large Texelx lamb.
 
DAIRY COWS
A catalogue entry of 4 dairy cows and heifers sold to a top price of £1980 for a Holstein Friesian 1st calver from R & R Corfield & Co Bronynant. A 2nd calver from K S Jones Lane Farm sold for £1900. Entries invited for the next sale of Dairy Cattle which will take place on Monday 23rd April.
