Welshpool catches fish’n’chips fever!

21/04/2012 @ 02:42

Welshpool has certainly had its chips this afternoon (Saturday) as hundreds of residents piled into Andrews Fish Bar to take a trip back to the 1980’s.

Queues were already stretching round the corner to Sainsbury’s as soon as it opened at noon, and as we head towards mid-afternoon, the threat of rain has not put people off.

Chips are priced 14p and a fish will set you back just £1.45, the same prices as 1982 when the shop first opened for business.

“Today is dedicated to the memory of my late father Dimitri, who passed away in 2004,” said owner Costas Andreou. “My sons Dimitri and Nicholas and I owe a great debt to my father and mother Valentine for everything they did in the early days to make the business work.

“I would like to thank all the staff, past and present, who have helped make this event happen and of course to the people of Welshpool who have come out to support the day in huge numbers.”

A raffle is being held in aid of Air Ambulance with a weekend at Alton Towers up for grabs.

The chippy is expected to stay open until 8pm.
